Rougemont School's study skills site.
Welcome to your study skills site. There will be lots of web links on here to help you to revise.
What type of learner are you?
Do you remember most of the things you see?
Do you remember most of the things you hear?
Do you remember most of the things you have done?
Most people are a mixture of all three types but you will have a dominant type. Once you have identified your type it should help you to adjust your methods to make your revision more effective.

Visual Learners
You need to 'see' your revision notes. You tend to think in pictures so you need visual stimulai such as mind maps and posters to help you learn!
Draw mind maps for each topic in each subject. Because you have done this it will help you to remember the information you need to know!
Also see the advice for kinesthetic learners.

Audible learners
You tend to remember the things you hear. You will study effectively if you hear your revision - therefore you should work in a group where you all talk about a subject.
Alternatively you could read your notes aloud to yourself; get a friend or family member to read your notes to you or, alternatively you could, (if your teachers agree) tape your lessons!

Kinesthetic Learners
The advice for visual learners also suits you - make mind maps and posters of your revision notes. Make collages of the things you need to learn.
Write post it notes and stick them on things in your house so you are reading them as you go around the house!
This method works very well for learning the names of things in a foreign language.

heya mrs G

because i'm really struggling with some of my work
and i was hoping i'd find a website that would help me
laura
x
Hi Laura,
I'll check with your English teachers to see if they have any useful sites for you to use.
Watch this space!
Mrs G
Hi again Laura,
I have spoken to Miss Robst and she said that you are better off using the past papers you have been given to revise from rather than using a website. She said that the websites can be quite generic and so are not as useful as past paper questions.
Hope this helps!
Happy revision,
Mrs G
Hey Mrs Goodwin
Is anyone else having problems posting things on the chem blog or am i just being a technoretard... Really need to speak to Mrs Van der Linde... less than a week left YIKES!!!
xxx flik
Hi Flik,
I don't know of any issues with the Chem blog but then again, I haven't tried to contact Mrs v using it! You are probably not being a 'technoretard' (a bit harsh on yourself as you can write on this blog!). I suggest you come to se her in school tomorrow (Monday) if you can - its always easier to work out problems face to face anyway.
Keep at it!
Love,
Mrs G
Hey Mrs. G it's Jake,
I'm having trouble wording the answer to..
"why does an operating theatre have a floor designed to conduct electricy?"
could you help me please?
Hi Jake,
Sorry, I haven't checked this blog in a while! You need to talk about safely conducting any static build up away from the operating theatre as the anesthetic gases they use are explosive and can be triggered by a spark.
By having a conducting floor the static electricity cannot build up as it is constantly given an easy path to earth.
See you in school!
Mrs G
hi miss, i gave my biology book in for mr. cobb to mark my homework, but couldn't get it back cause i wasn't in for the lesson on friday. which i need to revise from. what do i do??
Hi Russ,
I know that there are some teachers in school over the holidays but I don't know which days so the easiest thing to do is to phone the school 01633 820800 and ask what days the scientists are in. Mr Cobb may be in but I'm not sure, I'm not because I'm away for the week. If you phone the school someone should be able to let you in to look for your book. If you can't find it then you can borrow a text book and use that to revise.
Hope this all helps.
Well done for thinking of asking through the blog!
See you in a weeks time.
Best wishes
Mrs G
